Foodteria Link is the Foodteria app that runs on your Global Payments terminal. On the terminal it's called FT Link. In Station Mode, the terminal waits for payment requests from your POS or kiosk through Foodteria, so you never type the terminal's IP address and the two devices don't need to share a Wi-Fi network. Each one needs its own internet connection — the terminal's own SIM card is fine.

Clover and Stripe terminals don't use Foodteria Link.

Before you start

  • A Global Payments terminal with FT Link installed. If it isn't on the terminal, contact support.
  • An internet connection on the terminal and on the POS or kiosk.
  • Your Foodteria account email and password. The terminal signs in to the same account as your POS.
  • On the POS, the Terminal button in the active payment layout — see Payment methods on the POS.
1

Sign in and name the terminal

On the terminal, open FT Link and sign in with your Foodteria account email and password. The guided setup opens under Welcome to FOODTERIA.

Under Device Setup, give the terminal a Device Name your staff will recognise — Front counter terminal, for example. This is the name your POS lists later. Tap Next.

2

Choose Station Mode

Under Terminal Mode, choose Station Mode, then tap Get Started.

Standalone Mode is for something else: it turns the terminal into a handheld that takes table orders and payments on its own. For pairing with a POS or kiosk, choose Station Mode.

If a handheld in Standalone Mode takes a card and your main POS doesn't confirm the sale, the handheld says Payment approved — POS didn't confirm. Don't charge the customer again. The main POS lists the payment under Payments to verify, where you close the table with it or dismiss it — see A card payment didn't finish.

Payment Mode makes the terminal a card machine on its own: it opens on a sale screen where you enter an amount and take the card, with no POS, tables or orders. Like Quick Sale below, those sales have no POS order behind them, so they don't show in your POS reports.

3

Confirm the terminal settings

The Terminal Setup screen checks the connection to the terminal's own payment app. It checks again every 15 seconds and moves on by itself once the connection is good — or tap Continue. This screen comes up each time FT Link starts.

The terminal now shows Ready for POS payments. This is the screen it should stay on during service.

4

On the POS, go to Settings → Payment Terminal. Make sure Enable Terminal is on, then tap Go to Terminal Connection and open the Global Payments tab.

In the FoodTeria Link (Station Mode) card, turn on Use FoodTeria Link (Station Mode). The terminal IP address field disappears — you don't need it any more.

5

Pick the terminal and test

Under Station Mode Device, tap Select and choose the terminal by the name you gave it. If you have only one terminal, it's selected for you.

Tap Test Connection. The POS says Connection successful, and the terminal shows Connection Success.

On a kiosk

In the kiosk's settings, open Reader/Terminal with Global Payments as the terminal type. The same FoodTeria Link (Station Mode) card is there, and the steps are the same.

Taking a payment

Nothing changes for your staff. They tap Terminal on the payment screen as usual. The POS shows Waiting for the station while the terminal picks up the request, then the terminal prompts the customer. When the card goes through, the terminal says Payment approved and sent to POS and the POS finishes the order.

The terminal has about twenty seconds to pick up a request. If it doesn't, the POS says so and you can try again once the terminal is back on Ready for POS payments.

Refunds and voids are done from Order History on the POS, as before. The POS sends them to the terminal.

Tips: the customer is only asked for a tip if tipping is on in both places — on the POS's Global Payments terminal settings, and in FT Link under Settings → Tip Settings → Enable Tipping.

The Station Menu on the terminal

To reach the terminal's own menu from Ready for POS payments, tap all four corners of the screen, in any order, then enter the Station Access PIN — it's 0000 until you change it. You can tap Use account password instead.

The Station Menu has:

  • Transactions — the terminal's transaction history, and Close Batch for the manual end of day. It opens on the list it last loaded, with the time it was Updated; tap Refresh for the latest, and always when it says This list may be out of date. See Closing out the day.
  • Settings — the terminal's name, mode, language, PIN and tip settings. Change the PIN under General → Station Access PIN.
  • Quick Sale, Quick Refund and Void — these charge or refund a card with no POS order behind it, so nothing shows in your POS reports. Leave them alone unless support asks you to use them.

If it doesn't work

  • "TerminalApp is not responding. Make sure it is open in Foodteria Link mode." — the terminal isn't on the Ready for POS payments screen. Open FT Link on the terminal. It normally opens by itself when the terminal starts; if it doesn't, turn on Settings → Payment and Connection → Open FT Link on Start Up (Register App to UPA) in FT Link.
  • "No TerminalApp devices are registered yet." — the terminal hasn't finished its setup under your account. Do the terminal steps above first, then come back.
  • "Terminal is busy with a previous payment." — cancel the payment in progress on the terminal, then try again.
  • "The payment result is unknown", or "Payment went through but couldn't be saved here" — check the terminal before doing anything else. See A card payment didn't finish.
  • It worked yesterday and doesn't today — check both devices have internet, then restart the terminal. See Payment terminal won't connect.
