Some items share stock: a latte and a cappuccino both use espresso, a combo uses the same fries as a side. Give the item a recipe instead of a count of its own. Each sale then takes stock from its ingredients, and the item runs out when any one of them does.

An ingredient is another product whose stock you track the usual way, with Own Stock. Set those up first — see Tracking stock.

Set up a recipe on the POS

  1. Open the product in Menubook, or press and hold it on the order screen.
  2. Under Inventory, turn on Track Inventory.
  3. Set Stock Source to Ingredients.
  4. Tap Add Ingredients, tap each product the item uses, then tap Add.
  5. Beside each ingredient, set how much one sale uses.
  6. Save.

Under the list, the POS shows how many the stock on hand can make — Can make 12, for example — or Not enough ingredient stock to make one.

In Back Office, the same settings are in the product's Inventory section: Stock Source, then Add Ingredients, and an amount under Used per sale for each one.

An amount follows its ingredient's Quantity Format: whole numbers, unless that ingredient is set to Decimals. A syrup counted in decimals can give 0.5 per sale, for example.

What happens when it sells

  • Each sale takes its amounts from each ingredient's Available Quantity, at the same moments as any tracked item. A void puts them back.
  • The count on the tile is how many more you can sell. Items that share an ingredient go down together: sell three lattes and the cappuccino count drops too.
  • When an ingredient runs out, every item made with it shows Out of Stock.
  • To restock mid-service, press and hold the item. The − and + beside each ingredient change that ingredient's stock straight away.
  • The POS, Foodteria Link and your online store follow the recipe. The kiosk goes by the item's own count instead, so keep items you sell on the kiosk on Own Stock.

Switching an item back to Own Stock keeps its recipe. Switch to Ingredients again and it's still there.

When a product leaves recipes

A product stops being an ingredient when you turn off its Track Inventory, switch its Stock Source to Ingredients (a recipe can't be part of another recipe), or delete it. The POS asks first and lists the recipes that will lose it: Turn off inventory tracking?, Switch to Ingredients? or Delete this product?

A deleted product doesn't come back into recipes when you add it again. Add it to each recipe by hand.

If it doesn't work

  • The item shows Out of Stock, but you have everything — one ingredient's count is at zero, or was never set. Open the item: each ingredient shows its own stock beside its name. Press and hold the item and top up the one that's short.
  • An ingredient shows Not tracked or Made from ingredients — that product holds no stock to take from, so the recipe ignores it. Turn its tracking back on with Own Stock, or replace it.
  • The product you want isn't in the list — only products with Own Stock tracking on can be ingredients. Turn off Show only selectable items to see the others and why they can't be picked.
